This picture was Chromo-Lithographed on board from the original painting of W. Raphael by Roberts/Reinhold Co.,13 Pace d'Armes, Montreal around 1868-70. The original painting was done in 1868. William Raphael was born Aug 22, 1833 and died March 15, 1914. He was born in Nakel, Prussia and studied in Berlin. He immigrated to New York in 1856 and then moved to Montreal where he remained the rest of his life. It is framed in a Tramp Art frame with wooden back and measures 16 x 19 on the frame and the picture measures 12 W x 14 H in the frame . This is a very old piece in grand condition. Raphael's anecdotal oil, The Early Bird Catches the Worm, 1868, a work demonstrating poetic justice and humour, was made into a chromolithograph (coloured lithograph), published by Roberts and Reinhold in 1869. It was touted to be the first attempt in Canada of the chromo process. I AM NOW LOCATED IN FERGUS, ON.
