Ocean Explorations is one of the most recognized Whale watching 'brands' in the BEST area of the maritimes!
Job/Operating Requirements? ... The number one job requirement is NOT what most people would guess: (?)
Boat handling skill/smarts? Sure, but not #1, Knowing about whales/sea life? Also not near number one - anyone can learn the answers to the top 20 questions - just to be a guide.
Spotting whales and/or knowing where to find them? .... es with experience and many whale-watching areas, colleagues work together to make EVERYONE's trips successful.
The number one skill/attribute.... REQUIREMENT ... to own/run a whale-watching business is:
The desire/enjoyment of TALKING (sharing/teaching) with people (your passengers/customers.) So .. if you don't enjoy that .... or don't think you can 'act it out' ... this is not the job/business for you ... so be honest (with yourself). You HAVE to be Personable and upbeat ... even after long days, day after day through a busy season. ... and the various stresses in running a weather/nature dependent business, like this.
It is TRUE, you will have to have boat handling experience and minimum qualifications just to meet Transport Canada and pany requirements. At the 12 passenger or less category, it is not too difficult. If I don't sell the business 2023, I might (still) run it - for a short/peak season - but am willing to consider many EXIT strategies now.
Potential buyers would HAVE to have a minimum amount of EQUITY .... not (just) 'good credit', to pursue. Mentorship and partnering might be possible for 2023.
