Westinghouse 6U8A / 6678 Preamp Audio Vacuum Tubes - Rare 1961

Two very rare sleeved sets including 10 1961 Westinghouse 6678 / 6U8A preamp triode pentode audio tubes, all test NOS, all 10 are date code matched, all are in original boxes. Very clear, detailed, warm sound; the 6678 is an upgrade to the 6U8A. $320 or best offer. All 10 tubes have the '152' (52nd week of 1961) code on the glass - see our other items for a similar set of 10 with a code of '126' (26th week of 1961). It's rare to see these tubes with three distinct sets of overlaid labels on the glass - see the pictures. All tested in NOS range on calibrated BK 747, with results as: • Remaining Life - all pass test, • Shorts - none, all pass test, • Grid emissions - all pass test, • Test 1 - 9 tubes test greater than 120, one tests at 116 (where 68 is minimum), • Test 2 - 6 tubes test greater than 120, two tubes test at 108 and two at 104 (where 68 is minimum). All pictures, including the test results, are of these Westinghouse tubes. All 10 are labeled on the glass with 'Westinghouse' and '152' in yellow text, and with '6678 / 6U8 U.S.A.' in white text. Even though these 10 tubes were all made the same 'week period', there are four different silver etch markings; this date-code-matched set shows the historic transition of market tube markings away from the octagonal-framed logo towards text-only etch logos. Larger top halo ring getter. All boxes and sleeves are in very good crisp condition, boxes measure 3 inches tall, and all 10 have the 'Westinghouse' and '6678 6U8A' and 'U.S.A.' label on the top end flap. All 10 boxes are labeled 'C3' and '1234' on the bottom end underflap. Boxes and sleeves are all bilingual (English on one side and French on another side). This tube set came from a pany's reserve stock department, and a one-page detailed written provenance is included. See our other sale items for more audio tubes.
