Vintage Space Man Astronaut Registering Bank, Clock, Alarm Works Wow, this Canadian astronaut registering bank, clock and alarm gives you a lot of bang for your buck. Well, I didn’t try any loonies or 50 cent pieces but the electronics of this toy are quite sophisticated for a circa 2000 product made in Taiwan. It takes two batteries (that you have to load in just the right way) which power the digital readout. The clock keeps good time. The alarm - not a bang but a constant beeping that will surely arouse you to hit the set button to make it stop. Most fascinating though, and something that might inspire kids to save, is the registering bank. It reads pennies (for those that still have a stash), nickels, dimes and quarters, confirms the denomination entered and displays the total saved to that date. Impressively, there seems to be something like a bit of ram that remembers how much you have already saved, even when you have to remove and reinsert the batteries. It seems pretty sophisticated for its time. As already mentioned, all functions seem operational. No detracting flaws that I can see but there a few light scuff marks.
