Vintage Hans Christian Anderson Plate, The Nightingale

This is a missioned, highly collectible Hans Christian Anderson plate, with an illustration designed by Pauline Elliston. It is the 'The Nightingale' (9628 - 04), Royal Copenhagen, Denmark . It is one of twelve, numbered, porcelain plates created in the 1970s, memorate Hans Christian Anderson, and the fairy tales he wrote. This plate is in excellent condition with no chips, flaws, or cracks.or It measures approximately 7 3/4 inches, with a 3/8 inch decorative gold border, highlighted with butterflies, birds, and flowers. The Nightingale is a fairy tale about an emperor who prefers the chiming of a bejewelled mechanical bird, instead of the song of an authentic nightingale. When the Emperor is near death, however, it is the nightingale who restores his health with his song.
