I DO NOT WANT TO SELL THESE CARS. I've been given no other choice.
I have two matching, completely stock, navy "crushed velvet" on grey, fully optioned out 1990 Toyota Cressidas. I. WILL. NOT. SEPARATE THEM.
This was the best car Toyota had to offer world wide until they launched Lexus in late 1989 and brought some Japan only models to North America for the 1990 model year. Because of this, This generation Cressida had relatively poor sales in North America and ended up being the last generation of the marque, being superseded by the Avalon in 1992 for top position in Toyota's personal line up. It being the "Top Dog", it has all the Bells and Whistles you could ever think of. Electric antenna? Got it. 7 speaker audio? Got it. 7-way adjustable seats? Got it. Full-Sized spare tire? Got it. Toyota's signature under steering wheel "Gooch Cooler 9000"? Got it, and it works well! All that and wild cockpit style dash that's all facing the driver? Of course! More ashtrays than cup holders? Yeah, because we know what's important! A button that slides out a tray to access more buttons? Yup, Got it. The list goes on and on. They truly ride like a dream, but not an American dream because they actually handle... like... extremely well for how soft the ride is. This chassis is shared with the MK3 Supra but sadly didn't have the 1JZ, turbo or manual options here but are ALL factory bolt in/on options if you ever felt the need.
Now, about these two cars specifically. The first one (which is almost all of the photos) pletely road worth, minus some small things here and there that I will list. This car pletely running and driving, There isn't a spec of rust anywhere, minus some in one of the wheel wells. Sadly I ran out of space for photos so I could only upload the bad one of the 4. All of the electronics work perfectly, along with the freshly lubed sun-roof and the headlight washers in the bumper. The headlights are glass, not that posite stuff that gets hazy. Though, that is a factory option that you can still get new from Toyota, just like a surprising amount of other things for this car actually. The interior is "Like New" as there isn't a single tear, scuff or worn out/sun faded spot in any of the fabrics. It's a little dusty, but that's about it. All of the door trim, dash and steering wheel are all wrapped in real leather. The fabric is genuinely amazing too. It's like staring into the void of space, to the eye, its very dark and it sparkles like nothing I've ever seen in the light. I don't smoke and I know the previous owner doesn't so I'd be willing to bet it hasn't been smoked in, or at least not in the past 15-20 years. It has only seen premium gas it's entire life and all parts I've bought have been OEM or better replacement. This truly is an almost flawless example of this car. But of course, now for the bad... The wheels are dry rotten and not road worthy but do hold air surprisingly well for their age. I do have a spare set of new tires on wheels that are kind of ugly, but would pass a safety. The protective top layer of the leather on the steering wheel ing off which is sadly mon on these cars but can be cheaply repaired quite easy or just re-covered. The passenger side fender has been replaced. From what I understand, the bottom front corner below the bumper was hit on a curb and bent up only the decorative sheet metal, instead of getting a bad patch job done, the previous owner opted for a whole new fender and chin plate, which I can respect. Another thing is, the engine is making a slight ticking noise, can't even be heard from the interior but is there and can be heard if you have the hood open. The exhaust is rusty and loud, definitely has holes. Slight blue smoke on start up after sitting for a long time but goes away quickly. Got pression test done and was above 150 psi in all cylinders so the rings haven't been damaged or something but I'm confident the valve seals have gone. That's about all I can think of. It really is a Gem other than these small things.
For the second car, It would be a lot more work to get it back on the road but even has a clean title if that's something you'd want to do. Personally, I'd mend using it as a track car because with some over fenders, the thing would look fine and I don't think any of the rust damage is structural. there's also bolt in kits for the 1UZ, an LS or, of course the famous 2JZ. A heads up, this car has previously been used as a parts car by the previous owner and his friend who apparently had a burgundy on red Cressida as well. Things that I am aware are missing, are the passenger side front window, the starter and the front bumper. Everything else is there and interior is actually in pretty good shape as well. The rear deck behind the seats is sun bleached but that's about it. Also the same issue with the steering wheel. don't know why but it has a brand new looking radiator and stainless steel exhaust all the way forward. The engine is out of the car now because I was in the process of doing a quick rebuild on it just to throw in the other car to keep it driving while I did a more thorough go through of that other engine to find that tick, fix the valve seals and freshen it up a bit while I was at it.
brand new parts that I have but not installed;
two brand new chin plates, spare distributor cap, new spark plug wires, another set of NKG spark plugs on top of the new ones I put in the first car, spare Bosch fuel filter, set of fuel injector seals, a full gasket set with multi-layer metal head gasket, a second metal head gasket along with other random seals and gaskets, two sets of valve seals, new Toyota oil pan liquid gasket. which is the proper thing, not the cork or paper gaskets new KYB front struts. I heard one is leaking so I have a pair even though the they seem fine, rebound fine, and don't bounce excessively.
It really is a shame that I got busy with work and then of course, work got less busy but then didn't have the money to get it all done so it's just sat the past couple months. I really do enjoy this car but it's just not "in the cards" to keep it at the moment. Hopefully, it can bring someone as much joy as it has brought me and for someone to take care of it for another generation.
