TomTom Go600 GPS (brand new in box but please read description)

PROS Large touch screen. Voice control. Free traffic alerts. With mapping apps ing more and more popular, standalone GPS devices have to set themselves apart. The TomTom Go 600 (C$300.00 at Amazon Canada)(Opens in a new window) ($279.99) has a nice 6-inch screen, optional voice control, and free traffic alerts via a mobile app. It's on the pricey pared with simpler devices like the $129.99 Editors' Choice Garmin nüvi 55 ( at Amazon)(Opens in a new window) , but the TomTom Go 600 offers more features and a larger screen. The POI database prehensive, finding nearly every business I searched for. However, the interface design is just so-so, voice prompts tend to be confusing, and sometimes the stated distance to the next maneuver are inaccurate. Design, Mount, and Interface The TomTom Go 600 measures 4.1 by 6.7 by 0.9 inches (HWD) and weighs 10.6 ounces. A large speaker takes up most of the back panel. On top, you'll find a slightly recessed Power button, while a USB charging port, a docking port, and a microSD card slot are on the bottom. I purchased this unit off eBay, the seller had said “BRAND NEW IN BOX” “Complete with mounting discs and charger cord” It did e with a windshield mount. When I opened it up and plugged it in, the LCD screen would flash and then the unit would arbitrarily shut off. I left it plugged in to charge the battery but I got the same result. I had read that a battery virtually drained of all power or weak would not allow the unit to power on. I purchased a new 1150ma battery (exclusive to this unit) installed it put it on charge and then pushed the power button, she fired right up. I then loaded North American Maps from TomTom Connect (which were free) and input a location, the voices were already preloaded from an earlier TomTom that I had used a few years ago. Working fine as a GPS, I then paired it to my IPhone and installed My Drive app on my phone, it paired but wouldn’t connect to the internet (using data). I did manage to get MyDrive up at one point but it kicked me out. So traffic updates and MyDrive are presently not working. I’m sure it’s just a reset reinstall phone issue as I did have success. I then purchased a Windshield mount off eBay. Although not a TomTom part per say, it is a perfect OEM replacement designed for Go GPS’s and fits and works perfectly.
