In a former life I was a fish. I was petitive swimmer from 8 until 17, then I became a swimming instructor with advance qualifications to teach Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and National Lifeguard - Pool. I spent 4 years coaching for Special Olympics Canada working with children and adults with developmental disabilities while working for my town and teaching in private practice. Most recently, I earned my open water scuba licence to continue exploring the water.
Professionally, I work with individuals with developmental disabilities targeting behaviours and teaching new skills. I have a Master's in Applied Disability Studies and Applied Behaviour Analysis which provides me with the background to create lesson plans for everyone.
I have worked with adults, teenagers and children with varying abilities or are just picky. I have worked with individuals who experience fine and gross motor challenges, who are non-vocal, communicate through munication devices, who are deaf and blind. I also help athletes fine tune their skills to improve their performance. Lastly, I enjoy working with parents to teach them water safety and first aid (I'm also a certified Standard First Aid Instructor).
I hope you can see my passion, and I hope to help you experience your passion for the water or perhaps develop some passion with new skills.
