Over the past 200 years, the individual settlements along the coast of St. Margaret’s Bay have evolved from tiny, sometimes isolated farms and fishing villages to a blended munity steeped in culture and history, with its ties to the sea and the land still strong. With this collection of old photographs, we travel through time. We witness the establishment of churches, schools, businesses and social institutions and note how their form, function and even their future existence were determined as each generation replaced the previous one. We see the changes in lifestyle and fashion. We discover the impact of the invention of the automobile, with the subsequent road construction and development of the tourist industry.
The book is a collection of memories which has documented the past for future generations. Because many of the original settlers have descendants still residing in the munities, the pages are filled with familiar family names. Whether your connection to the area is through deep family roots, sailing on the bay, a summer cottage or a Sunday drive, “St.Margaret’s Bay: An Historical Album” is a delightful window on the past.
The book is softcover, and is 138 pages. It is somewhat larger format, measuring about 9 x 12 inches. It was published in Halifax in 1997. It is used, but is in excellent condition – no writing, no stains or soiling, no missing or torn pages, clean cover & tight binding.
