Poppy's snowblower tips :

1. Many snowblowers are equipped with steel skid shoes which will leave rust stains on garage floors, may scratch and leave marks on most driveway surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, interlocking stone. Installing polymer or high quality skid shoes on your snowblower avoids rust stains on garage floors and will prevent scratches or marks on the driveway and walkways.

2. After each use clean snow off the snowblower to prevent controls, deflector and chute rotation from possibly freezing up.

3. Using 91 octane 0% ethanol fuel will help prevent ethanol related issues and help keep your carburetor and fuel system clean and in better running condition.

4. Keep your small engine running at its best with fresh fuel. Fuel with 91 octane 0% ethanol will stay fresher longer than regular fuel.

Here are 4 problems with ethanol :

1. It is corrosive when in contact with certain materials in fuel storage and delivery systems, including some pounds and the zinc and aluminum alloys used in carburetors.

2. Because it is an alcohol, ethanol dries out the ponents in a fuel system. This leads to cracking and brittle fuel lines, floats, seals and diaphragms.

3. Ethanol is hygroscopic – it likes water. Water enters fuel containers when they are filled up. Once in the gasoline, it forms a chemical mix that causes corrosion of internal parts. As the fuel level in a tank or container drops, water condenses on the cool surfaces of the vessel, drops and runs down into the fuel where the ethanol es it.

4. It acts as a solvent in older engines, dissolving the varnish and other deposits in tanks and lines. These then are carried to the carburetor or injection system where they can clog the small orifices involved.

5. Two of the biggest reasons why it is important to change the oil in small engines. * Debris gets into the oil, causing it to get dirty, and dirty oil causes wear on the engine. * Through regular running of the engine, the oil heats up, causing it to breakdown and create sludge.

6. If your snowblower often clogs up with snow, does not throw wet slushy or heavy snow very well or does not throw snow very far. These symptoms may be caused by a large gap between the impeller blades and the housing which decrease efficiency . This "gap" allows snow and slush to slip by the blades and build up around the impeller and in the discharge chute area clogging it. This problem is well known to people with two-stage snow blowers, Modifying the impeller blades by adding a strip of high grade reinforced material to each one of them to eliminate this gap. It is mended that you install a Snow Blower Impeller Kit on each blade however, because only modifying some but not all of the blades will cause a harmonic imbalance in the spinning impeller which could cause excessive wear on the impeller shaft bearing and could lead to costly repairs. An impeller kit is a modification that will increase snow throwing distance by 30%, it will stop your snow blower from clogging up and it will throw wet slushy or heavy snow very well.
