UNIQUE PAIR, FANTASTIC BEAUTY, CUSTOM 2-COAT NATURAL LACQUER FINISH; Cannot get them like that elsewhere; will make for a great gift to someone who loves music
SMELL SWEET, LIKE NEW; ALL-ORIGINAL DRIVERS AND X-OVERS, NO REPAIRS; WORK AND SOUND LIKE NEW Will be tested for local buyer on the front porch with a quality vintage amp, keeping distance
Wonderful classic Marantz sound; with seamless crossover integration (cannot hear the X-over point), perfect tonality, great dynamics, and clear warm sound; the Imperial 5G offer an incredible value. They are soft sounding, making digital sources and brighter amps to sound almost analog. The bass is unexpectedly deep, the sound stage is huge; these Marantz sound much bigger than they look.
These speakers were proudly made in the USA and were some of the first high fidelity offerings from Marantz in the early days of American electronics, the Superscope age that also brought us things like Marantz 2270 and Marantz 510M. Imperial 5G use special treated paper driver cones, for most natural tone possible; the drivers were made specifically for this particular model. The X-vers are simplistic 1st order, with only 1 capacitor in the signal path, again, for best clarity and most natural sound. The capacitors are exact same ones as employed in famous JBL L100, IMB wax paper type, no longer available new, they do sound special.
Attention DIY crowd: you cannot replace those with (well advertised) poly Solen fast caps, because Solen caps sound inferior, edgy and bland, even when burnt in. I highly mend higher end Mundorf capacitors if you ever want to upgrade; the values must match. I like these Imperial 5G original, the way the are now.

Google search gave these quotes:
"I don't know how good the 5g's are but I own 2 pairs of a25's (both recapped) and a pair of 6g's (also recapped) and in my opinion the 6g's blow the dynaco's out of the water. I'm running a tube amp paired to the 6g's the a25's have weaker bass, mids are nice but not as sweet, and the highs aren't all there. The 6g's are just magical with female vocals.YMMV"
"I own a pair of mint condition 5g's and love them. I own many many speakers that I restored. TF-600's, NLA's, JBL L80t's, and so on.... but these 5G's have a special place in the heart of my ears. Small footprint with a large soundstage."
"Marantz made several versions of these speakers. The 5b had totally different drivers than the 5g's. They shared the same cabinet, but were entirely reworked by Marantz between the "b" models and the "g" models."
"However, after getting them home and hooking them up, I'll have to say that I was somewhat presently surprised. They sounded much better than I expected them to"
"I recently found a set of Marantz Imperial 5G's relatively cheap in need of some tlc on CL. I wasn't really expecting too much from them because I've mostly read mixed reviews, other than a new project. I thought I'd take a chance. Got them home and hooked them up. My jaw dropped. These are unbelievably great sounding speakers! I'd been running Genesis 110's as mains, and KLH Model 6's as remotes, so I hooked them up in place of the model 6's. Running with the 110's, and then on their own. From behind me I hear "holy s**t! Are those those cheap speakers you just bought?" from the wifey who had been standing behind me, which I didn't even notice as I was so taken back by the sound these were putting out. Even she was taken back by them! Besides a slight "crackling" in one of the tweeters, these are in the running for the best sounding speakers I've ever ran through this amp. (Technics SA 300). Is this normal?"
"I recapped a Marantz Imperial 5G, replacing the oil-in-paper cap with a new polypropylene. Figured it was time, based on their age. I was wrong; it was a waste of time & money. The old cap measured identically with the new on an ESR meter, and the speakers sounded the same. Perhaps Marantz's best effort."
"I thought so, now I'm certain. I remember thinking that cap looked like an oil-in-paper. After recapping, I was unimpressed with the results, even thinking perhaps that they lost a bit of something. I left the caps in the box, still mounted. May one day switch back."
"I have the Marantz Imperial 6's. Friend had the 6G's. No real difference, that I could see or hear. And yeah, an absolutely GREAT pair of two ways."
"So we bought a pair of Large Advents. We measured them. They were good. They measured almost as well as the Imperial 6s. The main frequency discrepancy with the Advents was at their 1800Hz crossover frequency."
"There is another more expensive speaker that sounds better than the Imperial 5G in that line, but not all of them do, and I can't remember which is which. Full disclosure: the Imperial xG line sounds better to my ear than other Marantz designs."
