Description: Red-brown finish to quarter-sawn tiger oak on exterior surfaces. Interior bases of and backs of tiers are a golden tone maple or birch. Glass doors slide up and down over each tier face.
A gorgeous antique Arts and Crafts / Mission style {Arts et artisanat / Style mission} four stack / tier barrister / elastic / stacking / lawyer bookcase. Like other barrister bookcases, it features glass paned doors to protect books and other contents from dust. {Comme les autres bibliothèques d'avocat, porte des portes vitrées pour protéger les livres et autres contenus de la poussière.}
Plywood back boards with veneer interior facing. Solid oak boards sides, door frames, top, bottom. Maple or birch veneer interior back facing.
Probable manufacturer and probable missing stamp: Patented May, 1901; The Office Specialty Mfg. Co. Limited; Toronto and Newmarket, Ontario.
Dimensions: 4 tiers: 66” H x 34.25" W? x 13" D 3 tiers with effective internal (with doors up) heights of 11”; 1 tier with effective internal (with doors up) height of 13.5”; 4 tiers with effective internal depth of 10.5" (with doors closed)
Condition: Very good antique vintage condition ( 7.5 / 10 ). ?The glass in the doors have no cracks or breaks and have the original antique "wave" in the glass? ?All doors slide in and out easily?
Four new metal door pulls were installed, as all original ones were missing. One backing plywood and veneer board was replaced with c1960s wood wall panelling, which is loosely nailed. The plywood backing board (~3” H x 33” W x 0.25” Th) for the top piece is missing, however this is not visible with its back to the wall. Will have to check if any top centre horizontal brace boards (~2.5” D x 32” W x 0.75” Th) are missing.
