Selling a nonrunning 1983 2 hp, 2 stroke, single cylinder, water cooled (OMC) Johnson Sea Horse outboard motor that I acquired for a project, but now have no time for. Model # is J2RCTD.

She's a simple "direct drive" model i.e. she doesn't have a clutch and the propeller turns whenever the engine is running like a lawnmower. To affect reverse, you simply rotate her 180° with the tiller/steering handle.

Weighs under 30 lbs. Has pression (102-3 psi). Also has good spark.

Haven't looked at the carburetor yet. The only work I've done on her are sanding the points to restore spark, cleaning the already disassembled gearcase's parts, and repairing the previously nonworking (pull cord) rewind assembly. The pawl is somewhat worn, but does not slip when the cord is pulled.

Apart from that, the only issues she has are that she was/is missing the plastic high & low speed fuel mixture adjustment knobs (which are still available new or can be purchased used off ebay - mind you, u can use any plastic knobs that happen to fit on the 3/16" splines), the gearcase is discoloured (the only reason I can think of is that the previous owner may have torched & candle waxed the oil seal to loosen it), and the top of the gearcase where the pump housing is was a bit scuffed up (likely from doing the above and using a screwdriver instead of a seal puller or slide hammer) - I "sanded" it with a rubber Dremel attachment to smooth it out some, but you may have to coat the outside of the new oil seal with some RTV sealant before insertion (which some service manuals mend anyway).

Naturally, she will also need a new water pump impeller kit, oil drain plug washer, seals, gearcase "o" ring, prop pin, and a carb cleaning as per usual servicing.

The ignition coil & condenser, btw, are "newish" looking, so are definitely not the original ones.

Apart from the aforementioned knobs and the old seals & ring, no parts were/are missing. Have the old impeller, but its bore is "stretched" out.

I got the Sea Horse off a guy here last year who had picked it up for a project, but had only gone as far as drain & dismantle the gearcase cuz he subsequently got a John Deere tractor the model of which he'd been looking for for years and its restoration was taking up all of his spare time. Similarly, I myself have since acquired a few more desired items, so must let the Sea Horse & a couple other projects go, esp since trout season opens in a couple weeks & I'd much rather be fly fishing ;)

Asking a firm $100, which is less than what the stuff I traded for her were worth.

Speaking of trades, I will accept ONE of the following for the Sea Horse:

- a Stihl 023, 025, MS230, or MS250 chainsaw - doesn't have to be running or even have a good cylinder/piston, but all its other parts have to be there & in good condition

- a small or "mid" size 2 stroke backpack leaf blower - doesn't have to be running, but the engine & other parts must be undamaged (e.g. good piston & cylinder, undamaged tubes & backrest, etc)

- a 3.5 or 5 hp front tine geardrive rototiller - engine need not be running, but neither it nor the gearcase can be damaged - okay if weathered looking, but no rustbuckets, pls - may also accept a front or midtine chaindrive model IF it has tine rotor bearings (as opposed to plastic bushings) - likewise, engine & chaincase must be undamaged and it can't be fugly

- a good condition, rolling, hydraulic scissor lift cart of at least 300 lb capacity and minimum 24" lift height

Will also accept any TWO of the following in good condition in trade for the Sea Horse (or one of the following in good condition PLUS $50):

- a pair of folding aluminum ramps strong enough to load, say, a large snowblower

- a good quality, click type torque wrench that measures UP TO 20 ft-lbs (240 in-lbs)

- a decent quality (and clean!) 8 to 10 gallon Shop Vac with hose & attachments

- a 1" diameter shaft polesaw or articulating hedgetrimmer patible with Ryobi, Troy Bilt, Craftsman, Yardworks, etc 2 or 4 stroke, electric, or cordless "expand it" type (trimmer) powerheads

- a working or not dual trigger Homelite Super 2 chainsaw - must have an undamaged engine (cylinder, etc) & brake, decent spark, and all its parts in undamaged condition - not interested in any other model unless it's the Duramark version of the Super 2

- a good condition 18" to 24" plastic drop spreader - NOT interested in a metal one nor the rotary type

- an very long handle imperial wrench set from 1/4" to 3/4" with wrench & "box" ends

- an air hammer accessory prised of both "auto body" & punch type attachments

- a decent quality slide hammer kit

Multiple photos of offered items will be required, pls, in addition to any pertinent information about its condition in regard to gas powered equipment.

Notwithstanding the fact that the ad clearly states that the price is firm, pls do not try to negotiate a lower price just b/c u "want the outboard for parts" - if I was selling the Johnson as a "parts machine", I wd divide ponents into groups and given that many important parts of the outboard are no longer available new (e.g. the cylinder, cyl head, driveshaft, gearcase, gearcase cover, etc), the cumulative price wd be a heck of a lot greater than a measely 100 bucks.
