About the woodworker… Andre St. Pere.
Andre picked up woodworking from his grandfather when he was young. Woodworking became his raison d'être (passion/reason to exist) and remains so today.
When he was about 20 years old, Andre lost his vision and became hearing impaired. He didn't put down his tools, but rather he learned to adapt to his impairments. He came up with his own creative solutions to continue his craft.
He loves using solid rough wood of many species; pine, cherry, oak, maple, cedar, birch, walnut, etc. Starting with rough lumber he goes through a process of drying, planing, cutting, and sanding the wood molding it to be ready for whatever he is building. He prefers the wood to be about 1 inch thick when finished to keep it as solid as possible before routering his finishing touches.
Today, at 78 years of age, he still works, building various items from cupboards to cutting boards, furniture, urns, chests, shelving and many other items out of solid wood. His creativity keeps him going and he’s always looking to build something new. He has many items built and ready for use so please contact us if you are looking for anything specific.
