For Sale: The Michelin Man's First Hundred Years by Olivier Darmon (First Edition, First Printing; Hoebeke Hardcover; Rare Recalled Version)
Book is in new condition. This is the very rare, recalled version of this book that was only distributed to Michelin employees in Nova Scotia, Canada and in some areas of the United States as part of Michelin's hundredth anniversary. The book was recalled due to an image of Bibendum (aka the Michelin Man) suckling on the breast of an African woman on page 30 (see picture). This image was a reprint of a French Michelin advertisement from the early 20th century, but was deemed offensive by some employees plained to pany. Michelin had not distributed the book to all of its North American plants before recalling it. Many copies of the book were returned to Michelin by employees and were subsequently destroyed. Employees were later issued the second printing of the book, which replaced the original advertisements shown on page 30. We estimate that fewer than 5000 copies of the recalled version of the book are still in circulation or collections. Price :$125 obo
