Imported world famous "Wawel" Fine Porcelain China dinnerware set from Poland, 84 pieces in all. Clean, elegant and extremely rare, WAV19 design features gold stripping on all pieces, edges, rims, handles, insets, etc. on brilliant white with gently scalloped, matching-pattern weaves. In sparkling mint condition. Unused, absolutely no utensil marks or damage of any kind (except for one small scratch on a soup bowl).

Includes 12 pieces of each of the following including:

Desert/Bread plates, Salad Bowls, Soup Bowls, Dinner plates, Tea Cups and Saucers, Large Tureen with lid, Large Serving plate, Large Serving Bowl, Teapot, Creme and Sugar Bowls. All pieces are coded, stamped and authenticated as genuine Wawel China.

BRIEF HISTORY, WAWEL CHINA - Wawel production began in 1831 although the name brand arose later with the Krzysztof Porcelain Factory of Walbrzych, Poland, in 1952. The pottery was first known as Krister Porzellan Manufaktur back in 1800's Waldenburg, Silesia, Germany. It was founded by Carl Krister. After WW II when Silesia became part of Poland, the town's name was changed to Walbrzych and "Krister" became "Krysztof." Nationalized in 1952, it was privatized again in the late 1990s. And from Tea With Grace (suppliers of fine china): "The name Wawel (pronounced vah’vull) invokes the images of a romantic 11th century castle in the city of Krakow, Poland. This is the namesake for the fine china sold at Tea With Grace. The manufacturer has survived many changes over its long history but the quality of its products has endured through time. Wawel Castle, 16th century Wawel china has been made in the same factory, in what is present-day Poland, since 1831. At that time, the region was a part of Silesia, Germany. It was then that Carl Krister began the manufacture of china tableware and gave his name to pany, Krister Porzellan Manufaktur that dates back to 1876. Krister’s high quality products earned it a place of honor in the china tableware industry. In 1921, pany became part of the Bavarian Rosenthal consortium. In 1945, the region came under Polish rule and the name of pany was changed to Krzysztof (which is the Polish equivalent to the German name - Krister or the English name - Christian). The Wawel brand name was launched in 1953 and has been used ever since. With state of the art technology, they now have the best of both worlds - old world quality and tradition and the ability to produce high quality china in an ever-changing global market.
