GLASS CIRCLE OR ARC CUTTER

Heavy steel tool for cutting circles of glass. Probably originally designed for a clockmaker to cut round glass for use in old clock doors that covered the clock dial. The glass cutter is attached to an adjustable arm so you can vary the size of circles you cut. Max size would be about 8 inches across. The steel table rotates on a ball bearing while the glass scorer is held fixed with a lock nut on the arm. Basically you center the piece of glass on the table adjust the cutter to the size you need and lock it in place. Then you apply pressure to the arm and rotate the table clockwise so the cutter makes a full 360 degree score in the glass. The circle has to be then split out of the glass. This is done by either scoring a square around the circle with a straight edge or by scoring off the corners using a straight edge. Takes a bit of practice to use. Can be used with plain glass or stain glass. You can also cut other shapes by moving the glass off center on the table. A moon or eye shape would be an example. I used this tool for cutting plain glass for clocks and also for stain glass hobby work. The scoring tool is the basic glass cutter sold at hardware stores like Homehardware. But also likely available at most window glass shops. The pics show some glass I just cut. I rarely use it anymore so someone else might as well make use of it.
