G&L Tribute Legacy serial # 03090772
7.86 pounds +/- (on my wobbly kitchen scale)
Stunning 2 piece Ash Body, water clear finish over tangerine orange stain. I’ve never seen another one. There are some bruises in the finish but none large enough to be caught on camera.
DiMarzio hum cancelling pickups were installed before I bought it, (Choppers?) It would need the push/pull pots installed for their coil split feature to work but they are shhhhhhhh SILENT. When I first picked up the guitar I thought it must have been shorted out because I couldn’t hear a single buzz or hum. Strange stuff for a long time Fender player.
Look carefully at the hardware. That’s high quality stuff. Even the whammy works well.
The tuners have been replaced with quality locking tuners.
The neck is an Arrow straight maple neck with great frets.
Set up with 10 – 52 strings like Malcolm Young used.
This is a high end guitar. It started life as a well constructed Korean guitar made from premium well-designed parts by a respected manufacturer and with a few expensive modifications it has e a great player that sounds better than ever while looking amazing.
This is a guitar you can pick up after everyone has gone to bed, set it on your thigh, and play...and it will sound good with just the resonance of the strings, hardware and wood vibrating on your leg in a quiet room.
But wait until you plug it in to the clean channel of your amp for the first time - sounds from thick and creamy, to rich or jangly to “bite the heads off flies” dog barks – all are possible with this guitar.
...Until you switch channels and stomp on your pedals! The rock sounds are as good as any!
So...if it’s so wonderful why am I selling it?
The answer is simple. Two reasons...I need the money for a Esquire purchase and I don’t play the G&L anymore. It deserves better. I don’t know what’e over me – I’ve turned into a hard core Fender Tele and Gibson ES style guitar player these days. Who knew? So it has to go to a better home. It’s a crime that it’s not being played much.
Some guitars make you sound good from the first time you pick them up. For me, this was one of those guitars. But even if it did make me think I was a better guitar player than I really was, it just didn’t have the raw period sound or look I ‘m still searching for.
Great guitar – Wrong guy.
