Exquisite Eastlake Antique Fainting Couch Circa 1890

For your consideration is this stunning Eastlake fainting couch, and other than needing to be re-upholstered, the condition is amazing! The hand-carved walnut has no splitting, or ware to be found, and is on wheels for easy moving around if need be. There is also a dowel on each side underneath, for extra support, and obviously a good call on it's design, as it just may not be in the amazing condition it's in. It measures seventy-one inches long, twenty-nine inches tall (from the floor to the highest point of the wood at the back),comes out from the wall to the front of the couch by twenty-one inches, and the slant for the headrest is twenty-inches. For those that may not know, Eastlake furniture came to be by an English architect, by the name of Charles Eastlake. (1836-1906) He wrote a book in 1868, " Hints on Household Taste in Furniture". His design in furniture, actually help revolutionize the Arts & Crafts movement, but sadly his actual vision of hand-carved furniture was only to last from 1868 to 1870. It was then, that cabinet-makers took over his design in furniture and were then made by machine. If you look closely at the carving on the back of this fainting couch, you will see what Eastlake was, and is known for. He had a vision of wood with plenty of angular, rectilinear, and purely geometrical in design, and that is what stayed true. Vintage lighting is my specialty, so take a peek to see if you might want the actual light that was in the same room as this fainting couch (the name is in the title of Eastlake Style Light, or possibly another style of Victorian lighting, because as you will see, I sure have quite a selection to choose from.
