The 848 is monly underrated machine but don't be mistaken. A well sorted 848 out-handles just about everything else out there and has more power on tap than most guys will ever really need. They easily outperform 600's, and will run with litre bikes if pushed. The 848 received great reviews from professional racers who tested it when it was unveiled. Being a little lighter and more forgiving than it's big brothers, it's easier to ride and a formidable superbike in capable hands .This is a gen 1 which makes more bottom-end power than the 848 evo. For most guys, this translates to more useable power on the street. The difference in power delivery between the two isn't huge but their power bands are a little different.
Build specs/upgrades: -Suspension set up for 175lb rider -FC Gubellini Steering damper (high end italian racing manufacturer missioned by Ducati). -Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa DOT (street legal) race tires -Final drive conversion (with quick change sprocket carrier) from 15/39 96 links to 15/42 100 links which allows you to adjust the eccentric farther back to run race tires (which have a taller profile) and also increases torque. -Modified exhaust system - ceramic coated cans, de-restricted and repacked with race cores installed. Additionally, the entire system has been insulated with black header wrap, improving exhaust flow and increasing horsepower while also reducing radiant heat. -ECU has been tuned to this setup. -ASV shorty levers and the following ponents: -Brake and clutch fluid reservoirs -bar ends -grips -windowed timing belt cover -foot pegs -Top triple, passenger pegs, and rear sprocket carrier have been powder coated black -Aerospace grade paint (lighter and far more durable than inferior automotive grade). Custom designed paint scheme using Ducati's GP red which is a little brighter and more vivid than standard Ducati red. All three colours are painted on (not decals), including the pinstripes and number plates. Even the Ducati Corse insignia on the side fairings are painted on, not decals. *note, all dull black plastic trim pieces have been painted too, including mirrors, ignition cover, air conveyors, tank side covers, rad shroud, etc. -evo swing arm conversion -HID headlight upgrade -hidden rear signals inside tail vents -smoked tail light lens -undertail licence plate hanger
I'm probably forgetting some things... I currently have a similarly equipped 848 evo for sale too (see my other ad) and a flashy 1098S which will plete in a few weeks.
Also worth mentioning is that 848's don't cost more to insure than modern 600cc bikes because of the statistics. Less of them on the road ridden by less inexperienced riders = lower rates!
