I repair damaged tapes, and unfinalized / corrupted discs. Typical issues would be a split cassette tape or a camcorder mini-DVD unfinalized.

I do volume discounts. Some services have minimum 2 hour or minimum charges. I do all this work in house. Nothing is sent out. I can offer same day service on most orders, depending on what the order entails. No job is too big or too small.

You can drop off items to me to be converted or ship them to me. You can pick them up pletion or I can ship them back to you. Shipping may be free depending on the size of the order. There is tracking and express delivery on all orders. There is no insurance on original media source material. USB sticks, portable external hard drives and finalized DVDs from an order are insured/covered.

- - - HOW VIDEO CONVERSIONS ARE DONE - - -

Transfers are done mercial grade and properly / regularly maintained video playback VTR decks, not consumer grade equipment. A high end consumer S-VHS VCR may be used to playback EP/LP/SLP speed recorded tapes as professional VTRs do not playback those.

All analog decks are equipped with time base correction with S-Video output and stereo audio posite output and XLR if possible.

All digital decks are equipped with fibre optic DV IEEE1394 digital audio / video output. HD decks are minimally connected via HDV fibre optic cables or HDMI.

Videos are stabilized, captured at a high bitrate, upscaled and may be either progressive or interlaced (de-interleaved) depending on the source format for highest quality output and best results.

All transfers go through Blackmagic Design capture devices, not standard consumer grade USB capture sticks. Time base correction is applied where necessary

All SD (standard definition) analog and digital formats are captured in DV pressed format, and sometimes de-interlaced AVI, depending on the format. The specs are generally matching the original. Most capture specs for analog video are 720x540 at 25 to 29.97 frames per second and digital specs are 720x480 at 30.00 frames per second. Some professional SD digital formats are cinematic at 24 frames per second. The audio track of any of these formats are captured in WAV pressed 6144KBps 24 bit 96MHz Stereo. The data bitrate for capture of any video is 50MBps or higher.

All HD formats are captured at 1920x1080 at 24 to 60 frames per second (depending on the source) and is captured in either H.264, AVCHD or MOV. The audio track for this is typically 6144KBps WAV pressed. The bitrate for both analog, digital SD and HD is captured at 60MBps. Usually about 16GB per hour of SD video and 20GB per hour of HD video. A client wouldn't normally receive these capture project files, unless requested. It is usually editors that would request these. Most editors already know how to do this, it is typically brought to me for conversion because the editor does not have the playback VTR deck of their respective media type to be converted.

Finished projects from captured / digitized video files are saved in the mon format known universally as MP4 using H.264 codec or whichever format the client prefers. The output would be full HD, 30 to 60 frames/second at a bitrate of 15MBps or higher, however, the picture would be wide screen (1920x1080) or full screen (1920x1200) matching the original source. For example: A VHS tape would most likely be full screen, so this would look distorted and stretched if saved as widescreen 16:9 1920x1080. Therefor, it would be captured at 720x540 at 25 frames per second at a super high bitrate of 60MBps or higher in DV pressed format or de-interlaced AVI depending on the quality of the tape and whether or not its PAL SECAM or NTSC, then the capture project would be saved to HD MP4 H264 1920x1200 at 30 frames per second. I run tests first to see what is best for capturing.

Typically an MP4 digital video file will utilize approximately 5GB to 6GB per hour of SD and 10GB per hour for HD.

Most clients will choose MP4 or MOV for SD video and MP4, AVCHD or Apple ProRes for HD video.

HD mercial orders are usually saved in MP4 using AVCHD codec or Apple ProRes.

Audio only projects are captured in RAW 24bit to 32bit stereo 192MHz 6144KBps format then saved as pressed FLAC, WAV or AIFF (16bit to 24bit 96MHz Stereo 1440KBps minimum) as well pressed MP3 or M4A (12bit 48MHz Stereo 320KBps). Such files can burned to Audio CD as well.

High-Resolution photo scans are saved in both TIFF and JPEG formats (TIFF for editing and JPEG for viewing/archival) at 2400dpi or higher. Documents are typically saved in PDF format at 600dpi.
