The sound is astounding clarity with great dynamics, better than earlier CRx20/CRx020 series, much fuller sound. The x20 series have somewhat better build, but do not sound as good. The 840's sound is not really sweet, almost neutral, but precise, holographic and overall very pleasant.
It will be tested for local Ottawa area buyer at the front door/porch with CD player, turntable and vintage speakers, keeping distance; can be shipped, keep reading.

The CR-840 employs DC power amplifier with power packs very similar to those of best selling receiver of all time, the Pioneer SX-780. The CR-840 has a built-in AUTO-DX circuit that monitors the signal strength and amount of interference present. If needed it will automatically switch to the DX Mode IF Stage to increase the selectivity to 83dB. It also has continuously variable loudness control which means that the frequency balance and volume are adjusted simultaneously pensate for the ear’s insensitivity to high and low frequencies at low volume settings. So, a natural-sounding balance is maintained regardless of volume level.
