This is Auryn and he is looking for a forever home that is experienced with large and energetic dogs. Potential adopters MUST have Chesapeake experience!
Overall Auryn is an amazing dog but he has resource guarding behaviour with high value items and needs to be an only dog in the home. He’s amazing with people and I can put my hand in his mouth when he has a a special item and he does not react. He is a typical chessie and has a soft mouth and is very gentle. But sometimes he does not show dogs the same courtesy when they are near something of his that is special.
Auryn has started his training as a prospect service dog- and while his training still continues, he has since been disqualified as a panion and is in need of a new home that does not have any dogs. However, he is great with all animals and has many dog friends that he sees regularly at the dog park. There is opportunity for his adopters to work with him on his reactivity and potentially be able to have another dog in the home once his behaviour has been properly worked with. Auryn loves to chase balls (and leaves), play and run, run, run. He is a suck for attention and a huge goof. He loves love and typical for a chessie, is incredibly loyal.
He has been tested with cats, cows, dogs and kids. Positive results despite the resource guarding. He travels very well in a vehicle and on a city bus. He knows, heel, come here, let’s go, sit, stop (basically sit, but for crosswalks), wait, leave it, drop it, let it go, down, look (look at handler) and high five. He is also up to date on shots and kennel trained for night and nap time.
We have worked on socialization, exposure training, leash skills and many other things. He knows his name well and has near perfect recall- though he is still a puppy so he can have his moments.
There will be an application to fill out, as well as an adoption fee and a binding adoption contract with a neuter clause . A portion of the fee will be returned when there is evidence of immediate neuter.
