Hard copy of the The Horse of the Desert by William R. Brown Numbered 1405 De Luxe Illust. HC 1967 in very good condition. This is a classic must have for all Arabian horse enthusiasts. Open to offers. A summary of the book is as follows: The Horse of the Desert, by William Robinson Brown, is a work that is amongst the best researched of its kind. Chapters include: Habitat, Origin and History, Anatomical, Physical and Mental Qualities, Blood lines, Closely Related Breeds, Purchasing; Studs and Clubs, and Usefulness for Cavalry. The book is illustrated with approximately 180 black & white photographs and an account of Brown's 1929 overland journey to Baghdad in which Raswan panied him. It contains a copious bibliography of over 100 books and ancient manuscripts, including nearly everything in the Arabian Horse Owners Foundation's famous W.R. Brown Library, which is helpful in tracking down other sources of interest. First published in 1936, a second edition of 295 pages was issued by the Jay Shuler Co. in 1967, that includes a 23 page supplement with a biography of Brown and the descendants of the horses bred at his famous Maynesboro Stud in New Hampshire. There is also a section on endurance riding by noted equestrians, Linda Tellington, Alexander Mackay-Smith, Jack Humphrey, and Wendell Robie. Reviewed by Andrew K.
