American Made, Sears "Craftsman 80" (type 109-21270 / Craftsman 109) "Model-makers' lathe" featuring a 6" swing and 12" between centres.
Bed and ways are excellent and this es with a new 3/4 hp 110 volt motor and V-belt drive with variable speed control and epicentric gearbox (i.e a Borg-Warner transmission) for 0-MAX speed control, dead centre, lantern tool post, 3 jaw chuck and cross slide. Headstock and tailstock spindles are original and can be upgraded. This lathe can be converted to CNC and the tailstock can be replaced with a Jacobs chuck mounted on an interchangeable tool-post for additional distance between centres.
The epicyclic (planetary) gearbox gives a range of slow speeds that allow screw-cutting and the facing of large diameter stock. The annulus gear is prevented from rotating by a 2-position pin on the front face of the headstock and the carrier assembly must be released by pulling the pin to the detent so that it turns independently.
