Ultra Klutz (1986) #28 (1990) $5.00 ics Ultra Klutz (1986-1991) Story and art by Jeff Nicholson. Unknown to Sam Sogg of the planet Klutzoid, the convoluted and arcane machinations of cosmic beings, (Marvel’s thinly disguised Lords of Order and Chaos), caused him to be exiled from his solar system and deposited in Japan on Earth. Since he is 100 feet tall, Sam decided to e a super-hero for the earthlings. His first attempt at heroism was somewhat inept and since the Japanese people thought he looked like Ultraman, Ultra Klutz was born. What began as a parody of Japanese monster movies during the heady days of the black and white boom on the mid-1980s, evolved into plex interplanetary soap opera that lasted 31 issues. Creator Jeff Nicholson, satirized Captain Marvel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Green Lantern, and just about every aspect of ic landscape of the 1980 Sam Sogg was just a lowly fast food worker on his home planet, but after crash landing on Earth, he is soon propelled to the status of hero. Not due to an ability to leap buildings, rather to avoid tripping over them, for he is now as tall as a Tokyo skyscraper. Godzilla-like beasts begin sprouting up, and our former plebeian is fighting the good fight for mankind. But when other natives of his homeworld begin showing up on Earth, accusing him of treachery and sabotage back home, it seems Sam may have once been brainwashed as well. I t containsa back-up story by Yummy Fur‘s Chester Brown, in which his bunny character visits Japan and finds himself in the midst of one of Ultra Klutz’s monster battles: Brown’s art seems a little more rough than normal, but still it’s an enjoyable short. There’s a three-page Dishman story in here as well.

Straw Men (1989 Innovation) #1 $8.00 All American Comics Written by Michael Vance, R.A. Jones and Illustrated by Rob Davis A genetic breakthrough that promises to lengthen the human life span to 200 years is dispensed by way of a “Longevity Wafer” from the Primacy Church. The faithful members of the Primacy Church have also banded together as the Primacy Party and are very well funded. The burgeoning power of this politically active church alarms certain governmental agencies especially since the wafer doesn’t cure existing diseases, protect against death by violence or work on anyone older than thirty-five. All convenient exceptions since it will be years before the jig is up. Add to this mix: the man who developed the Longevity Wafer is the target of an assassination by his estranged son. Also a senator with eyes on the presidency, who uses his office to delay an FDA investigation of the wafer and a myriad of genetic freaks and two-headed men round out this psychological thriller. Straw Men imagines that secret genetic research has gone awry in Oklahoma. But in ic there are no flying super-heroes in billowing capes to save the world, and even the worst of the bad guys means well in its own way. The story centers on Craig Stonewall, whose troubles begin when he discovers that he has been the unwitting victim of an experiment by his scientist father, Dr John Stonewall

Torg (1992) #1 $5.00 Adventure Comics a division of Malibu Comics Entertainment Creators Greg Gorden and Bill Slavicsek with art by Daniel Horne Tharkold Invasion of Los Angeles Based on the Role playing game Torg is set on Earth during an alien invasion, and players play archetypal heroes from differing genres. The game's title, Torg, refers to an in-game title that individual leaders of the invasion strive to achieve. Torg is set in a near future setting, known officially as "the near now". At the game's starting point, Earth has been subjected to an inter-dimensional invasion by a series of "High Lords", who have changed the natural laws of large swaths of the planet to reflect those of their home dimensions. The players assume the role of "Storm Knights": people from Earth and the various invading realms, who possess limited reality-altering abilities and who oppose the plans of the High Lords.

In July 1984, Aardvark-Vanaheim was threatened with possible legal action by Marvel Comics over a parody of Marvel's Wolverine character in Cerebus. The adventures of Joshua Wolverine MacAlistaire, 1st appearance of wolverine who is a 19th-century American frontiersman, who debuted in the back pages of Cerebus.
