Antique Japanese Maru Andon [round floor lantern]

If you see the item then it is available, we are not looking for trades and we will not ship the item. We have this antique Japanese Maru...round...Andon...lantern...in this case a floor lantern. We believe the lantern is from the late Edo to early Meiji period based on our research and what we were told. The lantern was purchased by us in Japan and it is genuine, not one made in another Asian country to look old, it is old. As shown in the photos, there are a lot of dings, chips and dents in the lantern, it is old and was used. It measures just about 13 inches across by 32 inches high. The iron on the lantern is hand forged, the hand made Japanese washi paper was changed by us several years ago that we bought from my wife's neighbour who had a paper shop next door, it did not have any paper when we bought it, it is always the first thing to go on these. There is a handle across the top for carrying and the original holder on the interior is there and made for a candle, another clue to its age, the very early ones going back hundreds of years, had an oil dish. The drawer on the base still opens and is where folks kept items associated with the lanterns. The lantern is darker than shown in the photos, it is black and as we can see, the paper shade is adjustable for control the light, it can be wide open pletely closed with all positions in between by turning the outside part. The lantern is very light in weight and fragile so homes with young children and/or animals may need to keep the lantern off the floor and out of reach to avoid any damage to the paper. Though it was made for candles, we feel it would be safer used with one of a variety of available lights that do not require electricity like LEDs, we have small button type lights we got at a hardware store. There is quite a bit of information available online for research on the different types of antique Japanese lanterns.
