Antique CHI-CHI CHINESE DAILY FORTUNE TELLER SET copyright 1915.

This is an old and well used Chinese fortune telling set consisting of all 78 numbered bamboo sticks, a booklet showing the fortunes associated with each bamboo stick, and the bucket/container, all original and in useable condition. It is marked Copyright 1915 SOLE OWNERS AND MANUFACTURERS PACIFICO SAN FRANCISCO, CA. The cardboard container is solid although the writing on it is faded and worn but legible. The directions on the outside read: “Hold box as in illustration. Shake with a snappy downward motion and keep on shaking. DON’T STOP, until just one stick drops out. The number on stick will be your fortune as described in panying book. If more than one stick should drop out, shake over again.” The booklet contains 78 fortunes, each corresponding with one of the 78 bamboo sticks. The front cover is loose and quite creased, the inside of the booklet has no missing or loose pages, but there are creases, some stains, and a few small edge tears (photo 8). The only things missing from this set are the back cover of the booklet, and the lid for the cardboard bucket/container, neither of which are needed for the fortune telling.
