Antique Cast Iron Firebox / Basket

This is an Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Coal Box or Firewood Box. It’s also known as a Fireplace Grate or Basket. It was used inside the fireplace to hold firewood or coal. These boxes were designed to corral the logs or coals being burnt, and more importantly the cast iron would retain and radiate heat from the fire much more efficiently than a similarly sized fire laid on the hearth floor.
A great looking piece. It's heavy duty, weighing about 40 lbs. Could still be functional for its purpose, or used as fireplace decor. Can also be repurpose for other creative uses.
The Front Face of this item is 21”W x 16”H x 12”D. The Rear Face is 15”W
