VISIT THIS BLOG FOR ALL DETAILS RELATED TO THE 190e FOR SALE:
Selling Vintage / Classic / Collectors 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190e 2.3 8v with approx 31k km.
Insurance for this car is only $210/year if insured as a classic / vintage automobile. That allows you to drive the car upto 5,000km per year for 'leisure' usage. To qualify for vintage insurance you typically need a good driving record with atleast 9~10 years of driving experience.
Previous Owner: I am the second owner of this car. Car was purchased from the original owner, a lady well into her 80s that rarely drove the car. The lady's son advised me that all maintence was upto date when the car was purchased and that they were selling the car because she was moving into a retirement home. 190e was garage kept during her ownership period 1993~2015.
Mechanical: Everything is original except for maintenance parts. During my ownership, I installed new brakes OEM pad & Zimmerman rotors, accessory belt, fuild changes and filters as required. I was current with maintence up till 2018. Used to drive it once a week in nice weather on the weekends up until 2018 (I had 3 other more modern cars for daily usage). In 2018, I sold my house to moved closer to my in-laws, so that they could assist with childcare. The only negative was that I lost 2 covered garaged parking spots. The 190e was parked on my driveway and was rust-proofed prior to storing on my driveway. It was started every two weeks until my 2nd child was born, at which time work and 'life' became very busy and hobbies took a back seat. The car has been sitting just under 2 years and will require a new car battery at this point and I would also true/surface the current rotors (they are new, but due to sitting, this would be advised). I've also noticed that there is a bit of brown color in the coolant overflow tank. I brought this up with my Mercedes indpendent mechanic and he advised me that it's most likely due to low milage and the Canadian winter climate. The head gasket he said is most likely dried out over time as the milage is only at 37k km. He also noted that a headgasket change was also mon for original headgaseket ofthe 190e. He said the newer designed 190e headgaskets last a lot longer and do not typically fail prematuretly. I advise highly that the new owner change the headgasket.
Interior: Close to mint condition, I would rate it 8.5~8.9 on a 10 scale.
Exterior: Exterior was in mint condition up till 2017. In the summer of 2017 I was away on a family trip and returned to find 2 moderate dents on the 190e. I was told by neighbors that kids on the street were playing street hockey and the car was dented as a result. In addition, when I acquired the car there was a small ding on the hood just behind the grill. I've brought the car to the body shop and received a quote of $1100.00 if all these corrections were made to make the car close to perfect for the exterior. I can send additional pictures of the defects to buyers whom I have vetted as non-time wasters. If and only if these corrections were made, I would rate the exterior as 8.5/10.
Modifications: Car is stock exept for: The oem stock radio and speakers that came with the car, I have it preserved in a box and will be given to the new owner. I did change out the headunit and front and rear speakers (4 speakers in total). Other than that I've kept the car stock.
Perspective Buyer: This car is ideal for an individual who has the mechanical acumen to return this car to it's former glory (mainly change the headgasket as a diy) and have a quality body shop correct the costmetic issues listed above. Someone who can appreciate this vintage of car.
This value of this car won't drop if maintained and refrained from winter driving.
