This 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner stands out to dedicated collectors and enthusiasts alike. It has been enjoyed by our family for more than 40 years and was professionally & extensively restored in 2020. It features a power-retractable hard-top that fits neatly inside the trunk with just a push of a button, and it transforms this vehicle into a great-looking convertible!
As a true cruising convertible, it is equipped with power brakes, power steering, an AM radio and clock (not working). Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer along with gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. Auxiliary gauges are mounted below the dash. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 20K miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown. It is powered by a 292ci Thunderbird V8 has a two-barrel carburetor and runs well. The V8 fires up nicely, and the dual exhaust gives it a nice, dignified purr. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Cruise-O-Matic two speed automatic transmission.
The exterior paint is refinished in two-tone Inca gold (yellow) & white. Bumpers, bumper guards, grill, driver-side mirror housing and emblems were either re-chromed or replaced and the sweeping side trim shows a graceful dip with a streak of gold finish built right in. The extra-long tailfins that start at the door handles give these full-size cars some classic Thunderbird flair. The Steel 14-inch wheels with hubcaps are wrapped in newer whitewall tires.
The interior was reupholstered with dual tone white and black vinyl/cloth bench seats, as well -- the headliner, door panels, visors & vinyl trimmed trunk have all been redone. Newer black carpet and Fairlane embossed floormats with the original door sill trim plete the look. The es with a technical manual, a used spare windshield, a vintage vehicle registration Auto Certificate Holder and a clear Manitoba vehicle title.
This unique, technological vision was top-of-the-line for Ford in 1957 and for very good reasons. While the Fairlane was an already established model, adding ''Skyliner'' to the Fairlane name was just another sweet touch of luxury. As well, this es from the first year of a very limited run where Ford dreamed big and delivered a retractable hardtop convertible that was unique from every angle, making 1957 a very desirable year for these models
This is a very clean and well-kept car, and it has always been stored indoors in climate-controlled conditions. This is a true cruiser you can enjoy in modern times either as a convertible or a hard-top coupe. It’s reliable, runs & handles well and is so much fun to drive! A unique and collectable car with that classic 50's look -- it always turns heads & attracts attention wherever it goes!
