Official Provincial Telephone Directory Number 119 from the Manitoba Telephone System (MTS) dated December 1947. Suitable for a rural Manitoba Museum. This directory lists all of the Manitoba Provincial and Rural subscribers in December 1947 except those in Greater Winnipeg. The exact wording used in the directory is, “Manitoba Telephone System, Official Directory for Provincial Exchanges and Rural Districts of Manitoba exclusive of Greater Winnipeg.”

Altogether there are over 400 pages in this 74 year old directory. There is a large section of what we today call the Yellow Pages or the Classified Business Directory (120 pages) but what this directory calls, “WHERE TO BUY IT.” There are 287 pages listing the subscribers. The subscribers directory is arranged by exchange. The names of the exchanges seem to be the same as many place names still in use today but there are also listings of other places which were not served by their own exchange. In those cases the name of the exchange which did serve them is given. This directory may be a useful tool for finding places whose names are no longer in use. Front cover has advertising prominently displayed from Eaton's and the United Grain Growers. Back cover has ads from Nu-Fashion Beauty Salons and Stephen's Paints. There is also display advertising by various businesses on the inside of the covers plus on the first 18 pages of the Directory throughout the classified section. This well used directory is in decent condition. Binding is sound with no loose pages. Pages are faded and or somewhat discolored due to age. Top corner was trimmed from "Newdale" to the end of the book (see pic) for ease of finding our home town's listings. There is a bit of writing on the Newdale page. Other than that, there is no writing in this book. Cover is scuffed and edges have nicks. $200.00. Can mail to you but you pay the postage.
